Once displayed in a store front window,
brand new, vibrant colors, newly born;
a passerby saw and just had to have it:
the hottest rage, shouting to be worn.
It was the most coveted shirt in the closet,
hung up with care at the end of each day.
It was shown off like some shiny trophy;
those who saw it had nice things to say.
Trends do change much like the weather;
now less desired, it got moved to the rear.
Faded and frayed from so many washings,
it was stuffed in a drawer without a tear.
It patiently waited for the drawer to open;
when not chosen, all hopes began to sag.
During spring cleaning it finally happened:
went from the most loved to faded rag.
